Sept 6 - Steve Rutledge - Water filter Project in Laos
The meeting started with a special presentation of a Rotary International "Paul Harris Award" to the late Joan Wayman in recognition of the significant contribution made by her to the Rotary Foundation to support Rotary projects around the world. Joan's late husband Ron Wayman passed away in 2014, and is sadly missed by our members. Until then, Ron had been a long standing member of Rotary since 1973, and never missed a regular club meeting in all those years! The award was presented to their daughter Janet Heidker with great appreciation.
Following this, Steve gave us an update on his "Adopt a Village in Laos" project. This landlocked country is bounded by Myanmar, China, Vietnam and Thailand. The rural villages rely mainly on subsistence farming. As many do not have access to reliable water sources, in order to minimize sickness and disease, Steve has taken the initiative to organize volunteers and donors to deliver 4000 portable water filters and many hygienic toilets, construct dams and pipelines from new water sources, and provide education to the villagers. This gallery provides photos of our morning meeting and his very telling story. More info here>>>> Adopt a Village in Laos. Also check out the >> Facebook page for Adopt a Village in Laos
